Welcome John Driscoll, Caron President and Chief Executive Officer

On behalf of Caron Treatment Center’s Board of Trustees, I am thrilled to share that we have selected John Driscoll as our new President and Chief Executive Officer. We look forward to working in partnership with John as he leads Caron to fulfill our mission of Recovery for Life each and every day. John’s connection to Caron is a strong one: he has been an industry friend and colleague for over 15 years, and most recently has worked as a consultant for Caron on mission and strategy initiatives. John will begin his new role the first week of October.

From his early days as a licensed alcohol and drug counselor to his leadership role as Senior Vice President at Hazelden Betty Ford, where he oversaw all clinical operations for their Recovery Services Division, John has more than 30 years of experience in the addiction treatment field and has become widely recognized as an industry leader. John was also instrumental in the merger of Hazelden and Betty Ford in February 2014.

John is the former chair of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP) and is the current chair of the NAATP Foundation of Recovery Science and Education (FoRSE) that monitors quality outcomes. He retired from Hazelden Betty Ford in 2022 and, since then, has been consulting with addiction treatment center executives to improve the lives of patients they serve and to organize and engage their employees to create efficient and effective operating models.

When informed that he had been selected as Caron’s next President and CEO, John shared the following:

“I retired from Hazelden Betty Ford and began a consulting business to assist CEO friends in the industry. I had absolutely no interest in becoming a CEO at other treatment centers and turned down many search firm requests. However, when the position opened up at Caron I began to reconsider. I’d had the opportunity to collaborate with Caron on a number of projects and believed that my skills and vision for the future at Caron could make a difference in a place that has had such a significant and impactful history within the addiction treatment field. Ultimately, I felt a divine nudge, as I’ve experienced throughout my life when unexpected opportunities arise. I’ve learned to put in the effort and trust in divine guidance. I’m grateful to the Caron Board of Trustees for their thorough interview process and the chance to lead Caron Treatment Centers forward into this next chapter of its history.”

John and his wife, Kristine, have two daughters, Alaina and Jenna. Alaina and her husband Reed are the parents of Brynn. John and Kristine will be relocating to Berks County, Pennsylvania, in the very near future.

The Board would also like to express our gratitude to Kris Bashore and Dave Rotenberg for answering the call and stepping up to lead Caron as Interim Co-CEOs since February 2023. They truly represent the best of Caron.

The Board also would like to thank the CEO Search Committee, led by Kevin Beebe with fellow Board members Douglas Dick, Andi Funk, John Gallen, Douglas Hawthorne, Chris Maguire, Mike McGlinn, and Marguerite Schroeder, for their critical work in finding Caron’s next leader from a large pool of highly qualified candidates from across the country.

Please join me in welcoming John, and thanking Kris, Dave and Caron’s CEO Search Committee for their tremendous efforts and commitment to Caron.

With gratitude,

Mark Skibbie
Chair, Caron Board of Trustees
