SHE RECOVERS® Foundation Launches Innovative Professional Training Program

SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO -- SHE RECOVERS® Foundation, a leading organization dedicated to supporting women in or seeking recovery, is proud to announce a new and innovative training program for healthcare, behavioral health, and allied professionals to help them better support the people they serve by adopting an inclusive and women-centered approach informed by the SHE RECOVERS Intentions & Guiding Principles.

Women are nearly twice as likely as men to be diagnosed with depression—anxiety disorders affect about 40% of US women. According to a 2021 study, 12.4 million women ages eighteen and older developed an alcohol use disorder in the previous year (NIAA, 2021). Since 1999, opioid overdose deaths have increased at a faster pace in women than men (NSC, 2021). The research is clear—expansion of gender-specific, individualized, and strengths-based approaches to recovery that address the body, mind, emotions, and spirit are needed to ease the impact of barriers and obstacles to long-term recovery facing women.

SHE RECOVERS Foundation has been at the forefront of championing women's recovery from mental health issues, trauma, substance use, and related life challenges through its trauma-informed programming, empowering events, accessible resources, and worldwide community. Recognizing the importance of providing recovery solutions that support women to find and follow individualized pathways and patchworks of recovery, SHE RECOVERS is thrilled to offer a new designation program designed specifically for professionals in an effort to strengthen inclusive recovery-oriented systems of care for women all over the world.

This 12.5-hour training centers trauma-informed practices and an inclusive approach to recovery. It is complemented by a library of SHE RECOVERS resources–featuring over one hundred voices in the women’s recovery movement—keeping professionals up to date on new innovations and trends within the realm of women’s recovery.

“This is our movement and this is our cause. And the world needs all of us, united in the common goal of supporting women in or seeking recovery. I am thrilled that this program is so much more than just a certification. All graduates are also invited to be featured in our searchable professionals' directory, where recovering women actively go to find external professional support. SHE RECOVERS Professionals can also become volunteer facilitators of our daily online gatherings and local sharing circles.”—Dr. Dawn Nickel, SHE RECOVERS Founder.

Echoing these sentiments, Liana Kennedy, manager of Certifications at SHE RECOVERS Foundation, expressed her excitement about the program launch, stating, “More than ever before, women are experiencing burnout and moral injury in their professional roles. I am incredibly honored to be launching a program that includes a focus on helping the helpers while they learn to incorporate the SHE RECOVERS Intentions & Guiding Principles into their offerings and their own healing. I am grateful that connection, support, and empowerment are at the heart of everything we do, including our professional training.”
