Gateway Foundation Announces Digital Solutions for Addiction Recovery Support

CHICAGO and DENVER – May 22, 2018 – Illinois-based addiction treatment center Gateway Foundation is now providing more than 10,000 clients with additional recovery support via their smartphones and laptops.

Clients can use this technology -- created by Denver-based myStrength, Inc. -- both during and following residential and outpatient treatment. The cost of the digital platform is paid for as a donation by the family of a former Gateway patient.

“In honor of Sean O'Neil’s memory, we are pleased to make this donation. This digital platform is a perfect addition to Gateway’s current care offerings. We hope this technology helps others in their daily struggles, providing them even more recovery tools,” says Mary O’Neill, Sean’s mother and a mental health advocate.

myStrength is a recognized leader in digital behavioral health, enhancing traditional care models. Through this online and mobile platform, Gateway Foundation clients now have access to treatment resources 24/7 to empower their recovery. These innovative resources -- which include treatment-inspired exercises, meditations, e-learning and more -- help those in recovery manage and overcome challenges. Some of these challenges include depression, anxiety, stress, substance use, chronic pain and sleep.

“We believe our new digital platform will provide our clients with a convenient way to stay connected to, and even extend, their treatment,” says Marc Turner, Community Division President of the Gateway Foundation. “This platform is personalized to each patient’s needs and experiences. These helpful, user-friendly prompts help our clients continue to manage their well-being during their entire recovery process.” Marc C Turner adds, “The recovery process, in many instances, is a lifelong process.”

Gateway is using myStrength to help clients manage their substance use disorder and mental health in-between therapy visits and after therapy ends through interactive coping tools, weekly action plans, activities, daily inspiration and step-by-step self-help modules. myStrength’s digital resources are evidence-based and offered through a HIPAA-compliant platform. Research published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research, Research Protocols shows those who used myStrength’s digital mental health tools had 18 times greater reduction in depressive symptoms within two weeks of use as compared to the control group.

“We are very happy to partner with the Gateway Foundation to help them expand their current care models with the use of patient-directed technologies,” said Scott Cousino, CEO of myStrength. “We look forward to working together to achieve a measurable impact in the way technology can transform mental health services.”
