NAATP Congratulates ONDCP on 35 Years

This year the Office of National Drug Control Policy celebrates 35 years of existence and service to the Country. It was created in 1988 with legislation sponsored by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Minority leader in true bi-partisan fashion.

NAATP has a long history of collaboration with ONDCP, which is charged with coordinating drug policy between all 19 federal agencies. While the authority and effectiveness has varied over the years, based on the level of commitment of each US President, ONDCP has continually attempted to create an improved environment for the substance use disorder field and increase access to quality care.

When NAATP took a strong stand regarding treatment quality assurance, ONDCP was there supporting us wholeheartedly. We also applaud their most recent efforts in pushing for enforcement of the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (Parity). When the proposed rules are implemented and the law is finally enforced, it will dramatically increase access to care.

We have always enjoyed a collegial relationship with Directors over the years, we applaud the commitment of the current Director, Dr. Gupta as well as the dedicated ONDCP staff who are always accessible and professional.

Congratulations and thank you to our friends at ONDCP. We sincerely appreciate your collaboration and dedication to improving the substance use disorder field.
