In this time of great change on global, national, and local levels, NAATP has decided to dedicate the months of June and July 2020 to the platform of advocacy. Part of NAATP's mission is to provide tools, education, and leadership to our members and the industry at large.

NAATP will host a virtual industry leadership panel on Thursday, June 11th from 12:00 to 1:30 pm MST which will bring together leaders from the field’s national guiding agencies for a high-level discussion about the state of and a progressive vision for the future of addiction treatment.

I write this message to you on behalf of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers, and perhaps, presumptively, on behalf of the thousands of NAATP members who sit in compassion and pain for our nation and its people today.

May is Membership Month at NAATP! Appreciation for and connection to our members will be our focus and purpose in May. Our team will be encouraging member-to-member direct communication, along with facilitating virtual convening.

The theme of this new format of addictionLEADER (AL) issue reflects new program developments at NAATP in terms of treatment research and education. In this ever-changing and ever-challenging field, there is no such thing as resting on laurels. Nowhere is this more evident than in the area of addiction treatment outcomes and measures research.

It has been nearly four weeks since the World Health Organization declared Coronavirus a worldwide pandemic. In that period of time, our world, our country, and our addiction treatment community was made to adapt to an environment we have never before seen nor envisioned. It is necessary to acknowledge that the pandemic is devastating and will have a lasting impact.

Announcement Regarding May 2020 NAATP National Annual Leadership Conference

NAATP will not hold its 2020 Annual Leadership Conference, which was scheduled for May 16-18 in San Diego. We thank you for your patience while our team assessed our options and focused on delivering resources to our membership and the field at large during this difficult time.

We all experienced a dramatic shift in the past 48 hours regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) with the World Health Organization (WHO) classifying COVID-19 as a pandemic and our Centers for Disease Control (CDC) instituting a more aggressive response. As a result, we are seeing more government and private agency event cancellations and heightened provider concerns.

As information and misinformation circulate regarding the Coronavirus, we are writing to provide some general guidance and link our treatment provider community together as we all work through this matter.

Leadership, value-based care, transformation, and collaboration: these are the concepts that inform and guide NAATP National 2020. Please join us as we apply these concepts as a professional Substance Use Disorder treatment community at the 42nd Annual Addiction Leadership Conference.

As we come to the close of 2019, I want to share a few thoughts and make certain you have access to some important resources. 2019 was NAATP’s 41st year of operation and it was a good one. We are going strong. The association is sound and has grown to nearly 1,000 facilities, the highest in our history.

As the NAATP team wraps up the year, we are proud to share our year-end highlights and reflect on 2019. Our team is pleased with the accomplishments and impact we have made on the addiction industry.
