The NAATP Foundation for Recovery Science and Education (FoRSE) has released its 2026 Annual Summary, continuing its leadership in advancing outcomes-based addiction treatment through collaborative measurement and shared learning. The release of the report corresponds with the integration of FoRSE into NAATP's core operations. This report is available exclusively to NAATP members at no cost or to non-members either through NAATP membership or for individual purchase at a fee of $1,500, reinforcing NAATP’s commitment to providing meaningful resources that strengthen the field and support treatment providers nationwide.
Purchase 2026 FoRSE Annual Summary
The report presents aggregated, de-identified data from participating treatment providers across the FoRSE Addiction Treatment Outcomes Program, offering insights into patient experiences, treatment effectiveness, and recovery trajectories. Building on prior years of reporting, the 2026 summary reflects the growing scale and maturity of the FoRSE initiative, which has steadily expanded participation and strengthened its analytic capabilities.
Consistent with prior findings, the 2026 Annual Summary shows that treatment engagement and symptom improvement are strongly associated with better outcomes. Patients who remain in treatment longer have lower relapse risk, while those who leave early—particularly against medical advice—face significantly higher risk of return to substance use; at the same time, patients experience substantial reductions in depression and anxiety during care, and greater psychiatric symptom severity at admission is associated with increased relapse risk.
New this year, the Annual Summary is delivered as a core component of FoRSE’s updated program structure. Under this model, participation in FoRSE requires membership in NAATP, aligning outcomes measurement with the Association’s ethics, quality, and advocacy work. This shift enables FoRSE to deepen its focus on member needs by supporting more targeted questions of the data, strengthening one-on-one engagement with participating organizations, and creating structured opportunities for shared learning through quarterly Member-to-Member collaboratives.
The updated structure also enhances the quality and comparability of FoRSE data. Because NAATP Provider Members meet established accreditation standards and adhere to the NAATP Code of Ethics, participating organizations can benchmark their outcomes against peer providers operating at consistent levels of quality and professionalism. In addition to core deliverables—such as the Annual Summary and learning collaboratives—FoRSE now offers optional analytic services, including a Benchmarking Dashboard and customized reporting to address strategic clinical and operational questions.
Since its inception, FoRSE has worked to unite treatment providers around common measures and shared outcomes reporting, addressing a longstanding gap in transparent, standardized data on addiction treatment effectiveness. Prior reports have demonstrated measurable improvements in mental health, well-being, and recovery outcomes during treatment, as well as the importance of sustained engagement in care.
“The Annual Summary is a reflection of what’s possible when providers come together around a shared commitment to outcomes,” said Annie Peters, PhD, Executive Director of FoRSE. “Under our updated structure, we are strengthening how data are translated into meaningful insights—supporting better care, stronger organizations, and improved long-term recovery.”
“By integrating FoRSE participation with NAATP membership, we are bringing measurement, quality, and advocacy into closer alignment,” said Marvin Ventrell, NAATP CEO. “This model strengthens the field’s ability to demonstrate effectiveness and ensure that addiction treatment is recognized as an essential part of the broader healthcare system.”
Together, these developments mark an important next phase for FoRSE. With improved data infrastructure, a growing network of committed providers, and a renewed focus on collaboration, FoRSE is well positioned to generate increasingly meaningful insights into what works in addiction treatment and to support continuous quality improvement across the field.
