Renowned Addiction Specialist Joins Release Recovery: Dr. Michael McCormick to serve as Chief Medical Officer

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – Release Recovery is proud to announce that Dr. Michael A. McCormick, D.O., has joined its substance use disorder and mental health organization – with multiple facilities across New York – as Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. McCormick most recently served as Medical Director for Signature Programming at Caron Treatment Center in Wernersville, PA. During his 8-year tenure at the treatment center, he also led Caron's Healthcare Professionals Program and served as the physician in charge of the Opioid Treatment Program.

“As our industry leans into the importance of medical oversight during the recovery process, every client coming into Release’s care will now be evaluated by a doctor. And not just any doctor. In the midst of an overdose epidemic, Dr. McCormick takes our work to the next level and enables us to help more people,” said Zac Clark, CEO of Release Recovery – which currently offers transitional living, case management, interventions, and other essential recovery and family support services. “To me, this represents a commitment to being the best at what we do.”

“Release is at the cutting edge of this field, and they’re very aligned with me with regard to treating people with love, tolerance, empathy, and an absence of judgment,” said Dr. McCormick. “I’m thrilled to join Release; to have the opportunity to help others through what I went through; to give our patients hope by showing them that recovery is not only possible, but probable; and to put families back together again.”

Dr. McCormick is a trained surgeon, who at one time, served as chief of surgery at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, AL. But his passion for helping those with substance use disorders after entering recovery himself prompted him to switch careers to addiction medicine, where he now has nearly a decade of experience in Medication-Assisted Treatment, detox, and medication management.

Dr. McCormick will provide medical oversight for all Release clients, including those at Release’s newly opened counseling center in Westchester, NY. He will carefully evaluate, prescribe, and monitor the effectiveness of client medication.
