After many months of advocacy and support from substance use disorder and mental health organizations, the United States Senate passed the Support Act by an overwhelming bipartisan vote. NAATP has encouraged passage for months. The legislation, which had previously passed the House of Representatives, now goes to the President.
There are numerous positive provisions included in the Act, including support for prevention, treatment and recovery programs funded by the federal government. It continues the workforce development provisions providing for loan repayment for substance use disorder workforce professionals. It also includes telehealth extensions, support for pregnant women and other important programs.
Details of the legislation can be found here.
NAATP appreciates the bipartisan vote on this issue as we strive to expand access to quality care for all Americans.
