Administration Cuts SUD Money

Administration Cuts SUD Money

Yesterday the Administration without warning, unilaterally cut nearly two billion dollars in grants to substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health organizations administered through SAMHSA.

NAATP joins the many organizations shocked and disappointed in that decision. These funds were appropriated by Congress on a bi-partisan basis based on the documented need for mental health and substance use disorder treatment. As those needs go unmet because of this decision, millions of lives will be impacted and many lost.

Providing needed services to make Americans healthy is not a partisan issue. Substance use disorder does not discriminate based on political philosophy, race or economic circumstances. Congress has the ability to remedy this decision as they work through the appropriations process.

Please call your U.S. Representative and U.S. Senator and ask them to reverse this unfortunate decision. Budgets are being established for the current year now. So now is the time to ask that this be rectified.

NAATP believes that anyone in need of treatment should have access to quality care. Eliminating that possibility for millions of Americans is a huge step in the wrong direction. Thank you for your support and involvement. It does make a difference.
