Ways You Can Support Teen Mental Health

Recent headlines about a growing mental health crisis among our youth are distressing to everyone who cares about young people. What damage has been done via the pandemic? How concerning are these developments? What can we do now to support adolescent mental health and well-being? Join Deirdre Flynn, a prevention expert with the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, to review the current state of teen mental health based on research, not headlines. Flynn will also discuss implications related to substance misuse, overdose, dating violence and suicide. You will come away with actionable next steps to support the behavioral health and wellness for youth.

-Understand how mental distress correlates to other behavioral health risk factors
-Identify and implement appropriate, research-based and practical interventions

Deirdre Flynn

With a background in K-12 education and youth sports, Deirdre Flynn joined Hazelden Betty Ford as a prevention specialist in 2012. She now serves as manager of field operations for the prevention solutions team at Hazelden Betty Ford. Flynn holds a bachelor’s degree from Rutger’s University and is currently enrolled in a master’s program for clinical mental health counseling.
