Advocacy
and Representation
NAATP represents and promotes the interests of behavioral
healthcare systems committed to the delivery of quality,
efficient and clinically effective treatment and prevention
programs for people with addictive disorders. NAATP is
the only national group representing the full continuum
of treatment settings for people with chemical dependency
illnesses and advocating for a coordinated healthcare
delivery system. Because we speak with a single voice
on behalf of all of you, we can effectively present a
united vision of the needs of our nations chemical
dependency healthcare delivery system on Capital Hill
and to federal agencies, insurers, employers, accrediting
bodies and managed care firms. NAATP is building state
networks to be where the action is. As the federal government
shifts greater responsibility to the states, NAATP is
organizing to help you connect with networks of your peers.
This grassroots advocacy will help to focus attention
on --- and funding of ----behavioral health care services
at the local level. Under the Medicaid proposal being
considered, each state would set its own benefit package
--- moving the battlefield for adequate chemical dependency
benefits and funding to the states.
NAATP works to solve accreditation problems. When members
told us of frustrations with the Joint Commission, their
accreditation process and cost, NAATP sent a delegation
directly to the top JCAHO offices in Chicago. Armed with
the results of a membership survey, NAATP was able to
argue for and will continue to monitor the implementation
of ----improved communications, reduced cost burden, responsiveness,
relevance to chemical dependency and timeliness in JCAHO
dealings with NAATP members. NAATP was also responsible
for the establishment of CARF as an alternative national
accreditation system for chemical dependency.
NAATP helps you with the Joint Commission, CARF, and state
accreditation. NAATP routinely represents your interests
by serving on the JCAHO "professional and technical
advisory committees for both hospitals and behavioral
health organizations, where standards are developed. NAATP
staff will consult with anyone on your staff who has questions
or concerns about JCAHO standards, policy or implementation
of either. NAATP also co-sponsors seminars on JCAHO standards
and works closely with both federal and state surveyors.
Education and Information
NAATP gives you the facts fast. A newly proposed monthly
bulletin format newsletter, the CEO Forecast, will be
a tightly written, closely read digest of developments
that can have an impact on your ability to provide cost
effective quality care. In the future, we believe this
will be a consistently highly ranked and valued member
service.
NAATP provides the information you need to survive. A
newly developed NAATP annual survey report is planned
to provide a comprehensive analysis of clinical and administrative
trends among providers of chemical dependency treatment.
Governmental groups in their formulation of public policy
also use our data.
NAATP listens to you. Our 25 member board of trustees
is proportionally representative of the membership and
represents not-for-profit facilities, independent for-profit
facilities, multi-facility for-profit facilities,
residential treatment centers and outpatient facilities
as well as units in general hospitals.
NAATP helps you network and responds to your concerns.
NAATP helps its members help each other. We also regularly
channel members' concerns and perspectives to such groups
as American College of Addiction Treatment Administrators,
the Society of Addiction Medicine and the Centers of Disease
Control and Prevention.
NAATP staff is small, smart and focused. NAATP is proud
of its staff, their sensitivity to member concerns and
their ability to respond quickly and effectively. An impressive
array of expertise and ability to get things done
in the policy arena, the clinical care and the media through
coalition building are put to work for you every day.
NAATP provides information that you need. NAATP is committed
to providing you with benchmarking and other information
that is addiction treatment specific and focused on helping
you remain successful in your operations.
You will also benefit from the liaison functions NAATP
performs for members with other private and public groups
that influence and shape healthcare delivery. Most of
all, the association is its members. NAATP strengths and
values are ultimately derived from the quality of those
we represent and their willingness to work to make their
association effective. We would welcome your membership.
NAATP, we feel, provides a membership that has a unique
vantage point from which to assess and respond to dramatic
changes on the horizon for all healthcare. |
